Ángel Mario Guzmán-Lobo, a 66-year-old Latino man from North Carolina, was sentenced to a minimum of 50 years in prison for sexually abusing five girls, local media reported on Wednesday.

The sentence was handed down by Judge Carla N. Archie of North Carolina, who found him guilty of four counts of statutory sexual offenses with a child by an adult and seven counts of lewd acts with a minor. The abuses occurred between 2013 and 2017, when the victims were between the ages of 12 and 18.

According to authorities, Guzmán-Lobo gained the trust of families with girls, meeting them through relatives or at church, and asking them for temporary accommodation. Taking advantage of the situation, he sexually abused each of the girls while the adults were in other rooms of the house.

One of the victims confessed to her mother in 2017 that she had been abused by Guzmán-Lobo, which led to his arrest.

The man confessed to the crime and two others, and after the case was made public, two other families came forward to denounce him for sexually abusing his daughters.
