Vice President Kamala Harris’ communications director, Ashley Etienne, resigned on Thursday as Harris’s polling numbers hit a record low 28 percent and a growing rift continues to create tension between the VP’s office and the White House.

"Ashley is a valued member of the Vice President’s team, who has worked tirelessly to advance the goals of this administration," a White House official told Fox News. "She is leaving the office in December to pursue other opportunities."

The resignation is yet another hard hit for the Biden Administration who has allegedly gone into “damage control mode” as reports of dysfunction and infighting continue to plague Harris’ office. According to a recent CNN report, the VP has been increasingly sidelined as her relationship with President Biden has become an “exhausted stalemate.”

ABC News' George Stephanopoulos asked the vice president if she feels "misused or underused" by the Biden administration. She laughed in response.

Etienne is not alone in her desire to leave the vice president’s side; several other individuals on Harris’ staff have reportedly began making calls around Washington looking for other opportunities.

But as the Biden administration continues to grapple with plummeting poll numbers, Republicans are enjoying the largest lead in midterm vote preferences in 40 years.

According to a recent ABC News/Washington Post poll, 51 percent of registered voters said they would vote for a Republican if midterm elections were held today. Just 41 percent said they would support a Democratic candidate.

The same poll also found that 53 percent of voters disapprove of Biden’s performance, with only 35 percent of Independents approving.
