Attorney General Merrick Garland on Friday named Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss as a special counsel to continue his investigation into Hunter Biden, a move that changes the course of a series of chapters in the ongoing saga as his father, President Biden, prepares for the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

In a brief statement, the Attorney General said Weiss on Tuesday had told him that his probe “reached a stage at which he should continue his work as a special counsel, and he asked to be so appointed.”

This is a developing story.
