The father of slain Colorado child JonBenet Ramsey said this week that he is threatening to sue the state of Colorado if officials will not let an independent lab run DNA tests on evidence in its files.
JonBenet was found murdered in her family's Boulder, Colo. home in late 1996. The murderer has never been apprehended, and suspicions have swirled in the intervening 25 years regarding the killer's identity, including whether or not it was one of the six-year-old girl's family members.
JonBenet's father, John, told Fox News this week that he would "pursue legal action" if Colorado would not hand over evidence in the case to be tested by a third-party DNA laboratory.
"There was a case in Florida that I read about a couple years ago, and the family [sued the state] and were successful," Ramsey told Fox News Digital.
"The judge said, ‘Okay, you guys aren't calling this a cold case, and it's a cold case. Let's turn over the evidence and move on.' And that's our next step if we don't see any progress," he added.
JonBenet's mother, Patsy, died in 2006 from ovarian cancer.
