Fastest-growing cities are in Republican-run states

The top 15 fastest-growing large cities are located in Republican-controlled states in the West and South, according to 2021 population estimates the U.S. Census Bureau released on Thursday.

Georgetown city, Texas, saw a 10.5% increase in population between July 2020 to July 2021, making it the fastest-growing U.S. city. In 2021, it was home to more than 75,000 people. If the town continues to grow at this rate, its population will double in fewer than 7 years. 

Three of the top 15 cities are located in Texas, as well as three in Florida, three in Idaho, and one is in Tennessee.

Arizona took a third of the top 15 list with five cities.

San Antonio saw the highest numerical increase in population, gaining more than 13,000 new residents in 2020-2021.

Data from the 2020 census shows slow population growth in the Northeast and Midwest while the South and some Western states gained new residents. Many black Americans, in particular, moved from northern blue states to states such as Georgia, Texas, Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia.

Reports show it may even be difficult to even find a moving truck in some Democrat-controlled states.

California and Illinois, both blue states with intense COVID restrictions, ranked as having the highest net loss in U-Haul migration last year, which means more U-Haul moving trucks left the state than returned.
