Explosive devices were detonated in three different locations in Northeast Washington D.C. on Sunday morning, authorities said as they continue to look for the suspects.
The first explosion took place outside the Truist Bank ATM in the 2300 block of Washington Place at around 4:30 a.m., the Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement.
At around 4:36 a.m., a second device detonated on the sidewalk in front of the Nike store in the 700 block of H Street. About 20 minutes later, a “Molotov cocktail-style object” was thrown at the Safeway grocery store in the 300 block of 40th Street, police added. Each of the locations was around a mile away from the U.S. Capitol Building.
The suspect then fled from the scene by getting into a gold or champagne color Acura TL with a Maryland license plate reading 17971CK.
The three locations were closed at the time of the explosion. While the different locations sustained damage, no one was injured.
“In each of these offenses, it appears the suspect targeted commercial establishments and it does not appear the suspect was targeting any members of the public,” the police statement said.
The devices that were used in the first two attacks have not yet been described in detail.
The D.C. police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives are offering a combined reward of $20,000 for any information that leads to an arrest.
Police released a surveillance image of one of the stores showing the suspect and the car he fled in.
This is a developing story.
