Six people, all adults, were injured this Friday night after being shot outside a nightclub in Washington D.C.

The shooting took place around 11:30 p.m. at Decades, a nightclub in the Dupont Circle area of northwest Washington, D.C. The officers arrived at the scene after receiving a call about a dispute that began inside the premises and ended on the street, explained the deputy director of the Metropolitan Police Department, Ramey Kyle.

Five of the six victims were Decades employees. None suffered life-threatening injuries, police added. Police arrested a suspect nearby and recovered a firearm, Kyle said. Additional details about the suspect or the reason for the dispute were not immediately known.

The District of Columbia is battling a sharp increase in violent crime, which increased 39% in 2023. This was largely driven by a 35% increase in homicides, while vehicle thefts nearly doubled.
