Congressman Tony Gonzalez on Thursday added his name to a letter penned by Congresswoman Elise Stefanik urging the Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Joseph V. Cuffari, to conduct an investigation of the Biden administration’s handling of the border crisis.

According to the letter, Biden’s decisions regarding immigration, “have led to the worst border crisis in United States history.”

“To date, the Biden Administration has not meaningfully complied with congressional oversight of the 2021 border crisis,” said the letter. “This lack of information hinders Congress’ ability to effectively legislate solutions to both fix the immediate crisis and to ensure that political considerations do not outweigh national security in the future.”

The representatives signing the letter claimed that the Biden administration had been warned that implementing several immigration policies rapidly would cause a surge in migrants.

“Our concern is that the Biden Administration proceeded to implement these policies despite the harm they would cause to our border and immigration system. Moreover, the Biden Administration did not take the adequate steps to prepare for the resulting surge, and as a result, a humanitarian crisis has developed.”

The representatives are asking the Inspector General to perform a comprehensive review of the crisis to know if the border crisis was preventable or intentional in any way. The final report should evaluate all of the information provided to the Biden Administration regarding the consequences of undoing former immigration policies and all of the accounting of the 2021 border crisis.
