Michael Goodman, a 43-year-old man, has been charged with one felony count of first-degree murder and denied bail in the case of the tragic shooting of an 8-year-old Latina girl, Sarabi Medina.

The incident occurred last Saturday as Sarabi was playing outside her home in the Portage Park neighborhood of northwest Chicago, Illinois.

The shooting occurred around 9:40 p.m. as Serabi was with a group of people. An individual approached them, took out a gun, and shot Serabi in the head. Despite immediate medical attention, she tragically succumbed to her injuries.

Goodman, who resides in an apartment building close to the site of the shooting, allegedly approached a group of people on the street. Without apparent provocation, he pulled out a handgun and shot Sarabi in the head while she was with her father, who had just bought her an ice cream.

Megan Kelley, a family friend, revealed that Goodman had previously complained about the children's noise and had a history of doing so. Following the shooting, Goodman engaged in a struggle with Serabi's father, leading to both sustaining injuries. Police have indicated that Goodman is a "known offender" and that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Goodman's defense requested reasonable bail, citing his lack of prior criminal records, but the request was denied.

Neighbors identified the young victim affectionately as "Bibi." She was about to start fourth grade and eagerly anticipated the beginning of the school year.
