A Black Oklahoma man with a racially motivated hate crime after fatally shooting two white strangers in the back of the head in Tulsa, Oklahoma, according to Fox News.

Carlton Gilford, stands accused of shooting a man in the back of the head at the Rudisill Library, and later, shooting James McDaniel, 55, twice in the back of the head at a nearby convenience store, killing both of them.

Gilford was also seen on surveillance video firing shots at a security guard and another person outside the convenience store.

When police arrived, Gilford reportedly admitted to shooting two people.

He was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of shooting with intent to kill, and one count of malicious intimidation or harassment, which is Oklahoma's version of a hate crime, according to a Police statement.

The Tulsa Police Department confirmed that Gilford had no connection to the victims and allegedly shot and killed them on April 18.

Police reports state that Gilford, who is homeless according to jail records, entered the Rudisill Library at around 9:40 a.m., approached a man sitting at a desk, and shot him in the back of the head.

"The information suggests that race played a role in it," said Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler, according to local CBS affiliate KOTV.

"I feel like that is something we can prove, and it is something that a judge or jury obviously needs to listen to. So, we will present that information along with everything else."

According to Kunzweiler, the evidence suggests that Carlton Gilford, who is Black, shot both men because they were White, but he didn't elaborate on it.

Jail records show that Gilford is currently being held without bond and is due in court on June 23. Prosecutors have requested that he remain in custody for the safety of the public.
