White House physician, Dr. Kevin O'Connor, insisted this Monday before the press that President Biden has not been treated for Parkinson’s Disease.
His statements come in the midst of a controversy over the repeated visits of a Parkinson’s expert who reportedly, repeatedly visited The White House.
In a July 8 letter made public this Monday by the Biden administration, O'Connor said that neurologist Kevin Cannard has worked for the U.S. government since 2012 and that the specialist has been in charge of examining Biden as part of his annual check-up.
"President Biden has not seen a neurologist outside of his annual physical" the letter stressed. “Seeing patients in the White House is something that Dr. Cannard has been doing for a dozen years," the document says, according to a review of the letter conducted by ADN America.
Biden's health is at the center of public scrutiny after a live presidential debate with former President Donald Trump on June 27. At the debate, which was televised by CNN, the president had problems following the thread of the conversation on several occasions and sounded weakened.
After several comments and rumors on the subject, the American media, including The New York Times, reported this Tuesday that Cannard has visited the White House eight times in the last eight months.
However, it is not clear whether these visits are related to the president's health or something else. The doctor specializes in movement problems and recently published an article about Parkinson's.
For her part, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre revealed that the American president undergoes a verbal medical check-up twice a week and stressed that since the debate he has not undergone a physical analysis.
Similarly, on July 3, the spokesperson noted that the president had not undergone a medical examination since February, but two days later Biden himself said in an exclusive interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC News that his doctors performed tests to see if had some infection and that they had given negative results.
Given this apparent contradiction, this Monday the journalists demanded transparency from the spokesperson about the type of controls that are carried out.
Jean-Pierre added to the press that in these three years of office, Biden has been seen by a neurologist three times and assured that he is not even being treated for Parkinson's, which is why he does not take medication for such a disease.
