U.S. President Joe Biden said on Tuesday during a White House party that Democrats want him to run in the 2024 election, even though polls show a majority want another candidate as their next president.

The U.S. leader argued with a reporter during a White House garden party on Tuesday and insisted he was still the front-runner for 2024, reported The Daily News.

"You guys are all the same," Biden told the reporter, adding, "Read the polls, read the polls. They want me to run."

"Most Democrats say they don't want you to run in 2024," the journalist added. Biden dismissed the fact by repeating that "92 percent said yes, they would vote for me."

According to a Siena College poll published in The New York Times, indeed, the president would win if the contest were between him and Donald Trump today.

However, he did not mention that in the poll, 64% of Democratic primary voters would prefer another candidate over him in the next election.

The survey revealed that "voters across the country have resented his leadership, giving him a low 33% approval rating for his performance."

The top three reasons cited by those who want a different candidate for the next presidential election were Biden's age (33%), job performance (32%), or simply a preference for someone new (12%).

In recent months Biden has insisted that he will run for the Democratic presidential nomination in two years.

He made his remarks during an event hosting hundreds of lawmakers and their families at the first congressional field day at the White House in three years.
