The Northwest Arkansas Council, a nonprofit organization, is offering remote employees $10,000 in bitcoin to relocate to the state.
The bitcoin is being offered as part of the "Life Works Here" Campaign, a talent incentive program that seeks to attract top talent to the region.
"We announced our Life Works Here incentive program in November 2020 that offers $10,000 and a bike to STEAM [science, technology, engineering, art and math] professionals interested in moving to Northwest Arkansas," council communications director Nate Green told FOX Business.
"On Wednesday, we announced a new spin on the program. Participants can now choose to get the $10,000 in Bitcoin. This move was designed to attract more participants in blockchain technologies to help build up the region's tech economy," he added.
Eligible applicants should live outside of Arkansas, be at least 24 years old, be a U.S. citizen or have a legal work permit, and have at least two years of work experience.
Applicants should be willing to move to northwest Arkansas within six months of acceptance and have to sign a one-year lease or buy a home.
"Since we announced, over 36,000 people applied. To date, 50 people have moved to Northwest Arkansas as part of the program," Green said.
"Northwest Arkansas is one of the fastest-growing economies in the country, with three Fortune 500 companies that call it home, plus numerous businesses and startups eager to build their teams and infrastructures," the council's website says.
Bitcoin is currently trading at approximately $42,000, according to Coin Metrics.
