A 15-year-old girl was playing on her front porch on Saturday in a Baltimore neighborhood when she was shot in the head. Police identified the suspect as a 9-year-old boy.

Neighbors of the 600 block of Linnard Street heard a single gunshot at around 8 p.m., followed by horrified screams.

“They shot my daughter,” one man cried out.

Officers arrived at the scene to find the girl unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A 9-year-old boy was allegedly playing with a loaded gun when he accidentally shot the girl. The boy dropped the gun and fled the scene.

The police learned who the suspect was after speaking with witnesses who saw the incident happen.

The gun was registered to a woman related to the 9-year-old and works as an armed security guard, police said.

The boy will not be charged because of his age in accordance with state law, reported The Baltimore Sun.

The incident is still under investigation. Police are working with the state’s attorney’s office. Potential charges are pending.

“I want children to be more safe. To put the guns away, get rid of these guns,” said Nykerah Strawder, mother of the girl. “I lost my daughter; I’ll never be the same.”
