Federal agents seized $715,000 worth of cocaine on April 1 at the Hidalgo International Bridge at the U.S.-Mexico border, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said in a statement

“Our CBP officers remain vigilant and rely on their experience and all available tools and resources to thwart this smuggling attempt,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez.

On March 29, CBP authorities stopped a white Chevrolet van that was trying to cross from Mexico into the U.S. Authorities sent the vehicle for further inspection.

Upon physically examining the vehicle, authorities found 37 packages of cocaine that weighed 97.72 pounds inside the car.

CBP’s Office of Field Operations (OPO) seized the drugs and the vehicle. The case is still under investigation by special agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations.

In January, CBP agents seized more than $310,700 worth of cocaine from a car that was attempting to cross the Hidalgo International Bridge.
