Five teenagers and three adults were injured during a mass shooting on Sunday in south Minneapolis, marking the second shooting in the area in less than two weeks, officials said.

The shooting took place at around 6 p.m. local time near the intersection of East Franklin and Chicago avenues in Ventura Village, according to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara.

Metro Transit police heard the gunshots and responded to the scene, where they found three teenage boys shot in their legs. As the officers were treating the gunshot victims, one more teenage boy approached them with a graze wound to his shoulder.

The four teenagers, aged between 15 and 17, were transported to Hennepin Healthcare.

Additionally, three adult victims arrived at the same hospital on foot: an 18-year-old man and a woman, and a man in their 40s, O’Hara added. Similarly, a 16-year-old boy took himself to the Children’s Minnesota Hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to the abdomen. All victims are expected to survive.

Police found at least 41 shell casings, including three different calibers of rounds, about one block from where the kids were found.

No arrests have been made in connection to the shooting. Police are looking for the shooters and are asking for the public’s help in apprehending them. Authorities believe there are only two gunmen, one of which was carrying an assault weapon. They fled northbound on Elliot Avenue on foot.

"This location has been a hot spot for criminal activity in the past, so we do not have any information to indicate this would've been random at this time. However, the investigation is in its early stages," O'Hara said.

Less than two weeks before, one or two possible suspects opened fire on a crowded yard, leaving one person dead and six others injured.
