A truck transporting migrants rolled over after a high-speed police chase with Texas authorities on Sunday, injuring 15 migrants and the driver.

The black Chevy truck was pulled over by a deputy at around 8 a.m. on I-35 in Medina County, Texas. According to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office, one of the migrants fled from the vehicle before the truck sped away, prompting a chase by authorities.

In a nearby county, the driver lost control of the truck, causing the vehicle to roll over multiple times. When police examined the vehicle, they found fifteen undocumented migrants inside.

"However many were laying in the back, it's that always someone's gonna get hurt or are killed,” Medina County Sheriff Randy Brown told News 4 San Antonio.

Two of the individuals were found in critical condition and were taken by helicopter to a hospital in San Antonio. Other migrants were transported by ambulance, reported authorities. Their conditions are unknown.

The driver, originally from Austin, was found carrying a weapon. He will face several charges, according to authorities.

The crash comes as the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Service encountered 221,000 undocumented migrants in March, highest number seen since Joe Biden became president.

"Some of them are probably just trying to come and you know, make a better life," Brown added. "But they're going about it the wrong way."
