Ukraine is starting to run out of ammunition as the country’s forces continue to face Russian attacks, reported Fox News.

“This is an artillery war now,” said Vadym Skibitsky, deputy head of Ukraine’s military intelligence. “And we are losing in terms of artillery.”

He added that Ukrainian forces mostly rely on foreign contributions for their supplies. However, the supplies provided from overseas might still not be enough to continue their prolonged battle.

"Everything now depends on what [the west] gives us," Skibitsky said in an interview with the Guardian. "Ukraine has one artillery piece to 10 to 15 Russian artillery pieces. Our western partners have given us about 10% of what they have."

According to Skibitsky, Ukrainian forces are using from 5,000 to 6,000 artillery rounds a day.

"We have almost used up all of our [artillery] ammunition and are now using 155-calibre NATO standard shells. Europe is also delivering lower-caliber shells but as Europe runs out, the amount is getting smaller.

The U.S. and its allies have sent billions of dollars in aid and weapons to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24.

President Joe Biden announced last week that the U.S. is planning to send advanced rocket systems and precision-guided munitions to war-torn Ukraine to help them out on the battlefield.

“America’s goal is straightforward: We want to see a democratic, independent, sovereign and prosperous Ukraine with the means to deter and defend itself against further aggression,” Biden wrote at the time.
