Russia's Ministry of Defense on Sunday claimed it struck military equipment from the United States and European allies and destroyed a runway at a military airfield near Odesa, Ukraine the same weekend members of Congress visited Kyiv.
The Kremlin said it used high-precision Onyx missiles after Ukraine said Russia bombed a newly-constructed runway at the airport, Reuters reported.
Odessa regional governor Maksym Marchenko accused Russia of launching a Bastion missile from Crimea.
Reuters could not verify the claims.
The destruction of U.S. military equipment comes as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other members of Congress made an unannounced visit to Kyiv on Saturday, meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The congressional delegation met with Zelensky to "send an unmistakable and resounding message to the entire world: America stands firmly with Ukraine," Pelosi said.
