Fox News cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski was killed on Monday while reporting on the Russian invasion on Ukraine, according to the network.
Zakrzewski and Fox News journalist Benjamin Hall were traveling when their vehicle was struck by incoming fire in Horenka, a suburb of Kyiv, according to a statement by Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott on Tuesday. Hall was injured and remains hospitalized, said Scott.
"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we share the news this morning regarding our beloved cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski," Scott said.
"Pierre was a war zone photographer who covered nearly every international story for FOX News from Iraq to Afghanistan to Syria during his long tenure with us," she added. "His passion and talent as a journalist were unmatched."
Last year, Zakrzewski was awarded an “Unsung Hero” award by the network for helping to get Afghan freelancers and their families out of the country, reports The Wall Street Journal.
"Pierre was a constant in all of our international coverage. I, like countless others, always felt an extra sense of reassurance when arriving on the scene and seeing him with camera in hand," Fox News president and executive editor Jay Wallace said Tuesday. "The legacy of his positive spirit, boundless energy and eye for the story will carry on."
Zakrzewski’s death comes days after the death of Brent Renaud, 51, an award-winning documentary filmmaker and former New York Times correspondent, who was filming a project on refugees for Time magazine when his car came under fire by Russian troops while stopped at a Ukrainian checkpoint. Renaud was hit in the neck and died.
