Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) announced Thursday that he would introduce a resolution on the Senate floor to head off moves by the Biden administration to curb 2nd Amendment rights.

“For the past two years, we’ve seen crime rates skyrocket all across the country, aided by Democrats’ soft-on crime policies and left-wing district attorneys operating like progressive activists instead of law enforcement officers,” Cruz said in a statement.

“Democrats would love nothing more than to shift the blame and stoke anti-gun sentiment, and create a permanent national gun registry in the process.”

The Congressional Review Act Joint Resolution of Disapproval (CRA) will prohibit President Joe Biden from implementing a new rule to expand firearm definitions.

The White House has toughened its stance on gun control following a rise in crime in urban areas and after this week's mass shooting in Brooklyn's New York City Subway system.

Typically, only a complete firearm or receiver, which houses the mechanics of the gun, are considered a gun under law.

Cruz contends that the new Biden rules would gun kits and gun parts to be regulated as if they were fully functioning firearms – meaning they wouldn’t be able to be sold without a serial number or without the buyer having to undergo a background check.

Gun parts have not been regulated this way because of how impractical it would be to track every part individually under law.

The resolution would also block a new proposed that would mandate firearms dealers to retain records permanently, in effect creating a national firearms registry.

Sens. James Lankford (R-OK), Mike Braun (R-IN) and Mike Lee (R-UT) are partnering with Cruz to introduce the resolution.

“Congress was explicit in the Firearm Owners’ Protection Act that federal gun registries are prohibited,” said Lee.

Nevertheless, the Biden Administration and the ATF are determined to restrict Second Amendment rights. The Biden Administration is willing to exceed legal authority, deliberately misinterpret the law, and ignore explicit prohibitions to enact its radical anti-gun agenda.”
