An 8-year-old immigrant girl who was in Border Patrol custody died Wednesday at a Texas hospital after suffering what was deemed "a medical emergency."

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials announced that the girl was in Border Patrol custody with her family in Harlingen, Texas.

Authorities called an ambulance that took her to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to a written statement released by CBP on May 17.

This is the second death of a migrant child in the custody of the Biden administration in a week, after a 17-year-old Honduran teenager, identified as Ángel Eduardo Maradiaga Espinoza, died on while sleeping on May 10 in the custody of a center of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Safety Harbor, Florida.

CBP officials did not release the identity of the eight-year-old girl who died, nor the nationality of the girl or her family.
