U.S. Border Patrol agents responsible for securing the Del Rio Sector of the Southwest border in Texas detained a man previously convicted of manslaughter just moments after he unlawfully entered the United States, earlier this week on Monday.

The arrest took place at high noon when Uvalde Station agents assigned to conduct line watch operations noticed three people trying to enter unnoticed.

The three individuals were detained and taken to the Uvalde Border Patrol Station for processing.

During a background check, records showed that one border crosser, Abraham Maldonado-Perez, 35, was previously convicted of a manslaughter charge in Dallas in 2010.

Agents determined that the Mexican national was sentenced to three years of confinement, but removed from the United States in 2013.

Having returned to the U.S. illegally as a convicted felon, Maldonado-Perez will now face the felony charge of Re-entry after Deportation under 8 USC § 1326, which carries a potential prison sentence of up to 20 years.

During fiscal year 2022 (Oct. 1, 2021, through Aug. 31, 2022) Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents had more than 1,708 encounters with migrants who had criminal records.
