Greater Manchester Police in the United Kingdom announced the arrest of two teenagers in relation to the Saturday hostage incident at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas.

Counter Terror Policing North West officers in South Manchester on Sunday evening arrested two teenagers who remain detained for questioning.

The department stated that the investigation is led by U.S. authorities and "police forces in the region are liaising with local communities to put in place any measures to provide further reassurance."

Police have not stated how the teens may be connected to the incident.

Suspect Malik Faisal Akram, a British citizen, died on the scene Saturday evening, ending the hours-long standoff.

"We were confident that he would not harm the hostages," said the suspect's brother Gulbar Akram, adding that Malik Faisal Akram "was suffering from mental health issues."
