Border Patrol agents found 40 undocumented migrants in a stash house in Northeast El Paso on Monday, the El Paso Sector Border Patrol reported.
U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Santa Teresa Station learned about the stash house during a vehicle stop, reported KFOX 14.
The Texas Department of Public Safety had found five migrants crammed inside a small sedan the day before. The migrants then shared information about the stash house and smuggling scheme with the agents.
Once at the property near Dyer Street, agents found 40 migrants hidden inside.
El Paso Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Peter Jaquez said one person was arrested and accused of smuggling the undocumented migrants.
The migrants that were found during the bust came from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Ecuador. They were all medically screened and evaluated.
The migrants were taken to the Central Processing Center to be processed and eventually deported. Some of the migrants, however, will be expelled to Mexico where they can apply for asylum.
According to Jaquez, Border Patrol agents have already discovered 29 stash houses and intercepted 347 undocumented migrants so far in the Fiscal Year 2023.
