U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents encountered on Monday the largest seizure of methamphetamine at the Del Rio Port of Entry in Texas, the agency announced.

CBP agents found the almost $12 million worth of meth last week inside a tractor-trailer attempting to cross the border. According to a press release by the agency, the truck was carrying 320 packages containing 1,337 pounds of meth.

"This is a massive seizure of methamphetamine, it is [the] largest in the history of the port and it reflects the steadfast commitment of our officers to the CBP border security mission and their effective application of technology, training and experience," Port Director Liliana Flores said in the release.

The bust happened after an agent flagged the tractor-trailer down for a secondary search of its shipment, which allegedly was hauling diesel tank reservoir containers. A canine and non-intrusive inspection system examination led to the discovery of the drugs, the agency added.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations special agents are investigating the bust, the CBP said.
