Three individuals died after the U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Del Rio Sector in Texas found several undocumented migrants trapped inside train cars last week, authorities said.
Authorities responded to a 911 call reporting people trapped inside the train cars, according to a Facebook post by the Del Rio Sector Border Patrol. When the agents arrived at the scene, they found 24 people who had been left inside the train cars for more than 24 hours.
Fifteen of the migrants “were in serious need of medical attention.” Three others, however, were pronounced dead at the scene.
“Our agents are brave & heroic, but incidents like this are difficult for them,” read the Del Rio Sector Border Patrol post.
Over the last month, Border Patrol agents have run into multiple cases of migrants being left behind and trapped inside trains, some of which have resulted in fatalities.
On March 25, agents found 12 migrants trapped inside a rail car in Eagle Pass, Texas. After being trapped for more than 24 hours, one person died and three others had to be treated at the scene.
A day earlier, on March 24, a group of undocumented migrants was found inside a train car near Knippa. Twelve Honduran migrants were found inside the train car, two of which were pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining ten were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
According to a criminal complaint of the incident, one man, identified as Denniso Carranza Gonzalez, was charged with conspiracy to transport migrants. Carranza Gonzalez was serving as a “foot guide” to take the migrants across the border to San Antonio, Texas.
