Santa Claus Cookies

Don’t let Santa eat these cookies!

Get in the Christmas spirit by baking Santa Claus shaped cookies. This is an easy and simple recipe. So get your apron, chef’s hat, and start baking!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp grated lemon peel
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Cookie frosting
  • Miniature marshmallows
  • Red sugar
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chip
  • Red cinnamon candies
  • Shredded chocolate

Directions

Mix granulated sugar, shortening, milk, lemon peel, and egg. Stir in flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Heat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Shape dough into 1 ¼ -inch balls. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten each dough ball using a glass cup dipped in sugar until about 2 ½ -inch diameter. Bake until edges are light brown, 8 to 10 minutes. Let cookies cool.

Spread a small amount of frosting on cookie. Put a marshmallow to one side of the cookie for the tassel of the cap. Sprinkle top third of cookie with red sugar to form Santa’s hat. Press two chocolate chips below hat for eyes and one red cinnamon candy for nose. Sprinkle bottom third with coconut for beard.

Makes about 18 cookies.

Make it into a cookie pop

After shaping the dough into balls, insert wooden ice cream sticks halfway into the ball. Continue as directed.
