Samsung will be using new materials made out of recycled fishing nets in its new line of products, including its latest phone, the Galaxy S22, reported a leak.
The Galaxy S22 will be the company’s first product to use the new material, Samsung said in a press release. However, Samsung said it would “incorporate repurposed ocean-bound plastics” across its product lineup.
In August, Samsung announced its “Galaxy for the Planet” campaign, which plans to expand the use of recycled materials for all of its products over the next three years.
“The use of this material marks another step in our Galaxy for the Planet journey that aims to minimize our environmental footprint and help foster more sustainable lifestyles for the Galaxy community,” Samsung wrote.
However, it is unclear how much of the material will be used in Samsung’s products or for what pieces.
Samsung will hold an unpacking event to announce the new Galaxy S22 lineup on February 9. More information about the new material is expected to be shared during the event.
