In a Russian public television program on Wednesday, presenter Vladimir Solovyov proposed the creation of an "international coalition" with fighters from Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba to stop the Ukrainian counter-offensive that has recaptured important cities overrun by Moscow in recent weeks.
Solovyov, known as "Putin's voice" for his alignment with the Russian ruler's discourse, proposed that the three countries—allies of Vladimir Putin—go to Donetsk to fight in support of Russia, joining the other foreign volunteers who enlisted to defend Ukraine.
“No entiendo por qué los estadounidenses, incluso si es contra Granada contra quien van a pelear, siempre improvisan una coalición internacional. ¿Por qué nos negamos nosotros ese placer?”, señaló.
"There are units in Syria very well trained by us, there are people in Africa who support us. There is Venezuela. There is Nicaragua. There is Cuba. There is Iran and North Korea," the Russian propagandist claimed on the Russia-1 channel's flagship program.
After giving the example of the International Brigades that fought in the Spanish Civil War, Solovyov insisted that Russia should not refuse "volunteers from all over the world go and fight in the Donetsk… we should give them the opportunity to organize and create an international corps."
The proposal comes seven months after the attempted seizure of Kyiv that triggered the war in Ukraine. Ukrainian troops have managed to recapture cities such as Kupiansk and Izyum, a key point on Russia's logistical supply route.
