May fifth: the day Mexico claimed victory over the French Empire in the Battle of Puebla after months of war in 1862.
Cinco de Mayo: a day to drink margaritas, eat nachos with queso, wear Mexican sombreros, and celebrate Mexican culture.
Whichever event you choose to celebrate, it is best celebrated with a margarita at hand. So here are 5 different margarita recipes for you to try:
Classic margarita
Ingredients:
- 1 ¾ oz tequila
- ½ oz lime juice
- ½ oz Triple sec (or other orange liqueur)
- Ice
- Salt and lime wedge to garnish
Directions:
Rub the rim of the glass with a lime wedge. Add salt to a flat plate, and dip the glass on the salt to coat the edges.
Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and pour onto glass. Garnish with lime wedge.
Jalapeño margarita
Ingredients:
- 2 oz white tequila
- 1 oz lime juice
- 1.5 oz simple syrup
- 2 jalapeño slices
- 1 oz Triple sec
- Tajin seasoning
- Ice
- Lime wedge
Directions:
Rub the rim of the glass with a lime wedge. Add Tajin to a flat plate, and dip the glass on the Tajin to coat the edges.
Combine the tequila, lime juice, Jalapeños, Triple sec, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker and shake.
Add the ingredients to the glass with ice. Garnish with a lime wedge.
Watermelon margarita
Ingredients:
- Salt and lime wedge to garnish
- 2 oz tequila
- 2 oz watermelon juice
- ½ oz lime juice
- ½ Triple sec (or other orange liqueur)
- Ice
- Watermelon wedge
Directions:
Rub the rim of the glass with a lime wedge. Add salt to a flat plate, and dip the glass on the salt to coat the edges.
Add the tequila, watermelon juice, lime juice, Triple sec and ice to a cocktail shaker and shake. Pour over glass and garnish with watermelon wedge.
Blackberry margarita
Ingredients:
- Salt and lime wedge to garnish
- 2 oz tequila
- 1 oz lime juice
- 1 oz Triple sec (or other orange liqueur)
- 6 muddled blackberries
- A dash of sparkling water
Directions:
Rub the rim of the glass with a lime wedge. Add salt to a flat plate, and dip the glass on the salt to coat the edges.
To the muddled blackberries add the tequila, Triple sec and lime juice. Mix and strain.
Serve over ice and top with a dash of sparkling water. Garnish with lime wedge.
Tamarind margarita
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ oz tequila
- ½ oz Triple sec
- 1 oz tamarind nectar
- ½ oz simple syrup
- Ice
- Tajin seasoning
- Lime wedge
Directions:
Rub the rim of the glass with a lime wedge. Add Tajin to a flat plate, and dip the glass on the Tajin to coat the edges.
Combine the ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth.
Pour on glass and garnish with lime wedge.
