Three Cubans injured in traffic accident in Nicaragua

The driver crossed into the oncoming lane shortly before colliding with a truck

Three Cubans and a Nicaraguan were injured in a violent traffic accident over the weekend south of the city of Ocotal, Nicaragua.

Nicaraguan authorities identified the Cubans as Gissel López Rodríguez, 23; Jorge Luis Fernández, 55; and Neydis Desayes Morales, 24. All are in stable condition. The Nicaraguan who was driving the vehicle was identified as José Daniel Ruiz Hurtado, 39, who is in critical condition after the accident.

Ruíz Hurtado was driving a Kia taxi that crossed into the oncoming lane shortly before colliding with a truck, reported Radio ABC Estéreo. Authorities released the driver of the truck from all responsibility for the accident.

Among the passengers, Ruíz Hurtado had the most severe injuries, along with fractures in both legs, the news website continues.

The injured were taken to the Alfonso Moncada Guillén regional hospital, where they were quickly treated.
