A strong earthquake hit Nicaragua Thursday morning, according to the Associated Press.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 and was centered about 36 miles (59 kilometers) south of the port city of Corinto.

It was felt strongly in Managua, Nicaragua’s capital. Residents evacuated their homes and workers cleared government buildings, according to the outlet.

Travelers at the Augusto Cesar Sandino International Airport were also evacuated from the terminal due to safety precautions.

Vice President and first lady Rosario Murillo told government media that despite the earthquake’s strength there had been no immediate reports of victims nor damage.

The earthquake was also felt to the north in neighboring El Salvador.
