Uber Technologies announced on Thursday that its application will now include New York City’s yellow cabs as part of a significant deal that can ease the company’s driver shortage in the city.

“Uber has a long history of partnering with the taxi industry to provide drivers with more ways to earn and riders with another transportation option,” Andrew Macdonald, Uber’s senior vice president of mobility and business operations, told The Post.

“Our partnerships with taxis look different around the world, and we’re excited to team up with taxi software companies CMT and Curb, which will benefit taxi drivers and all New Yorkers,” Macdonald added.

Uber’s collaboration with the city’s yellow cabs could add more than 13,600 cars to the app. Furthermore, the cab industry represents a $120 billion industry with over 20 million active drivers, said Uber.

As part of the deal, Cub Mobility and Creative Mobile Technologies, two companies that allow users to hail cabs through an app, will merge their software with Uber.

Some New Yorkers will be able to start riding the city's yellow cabs through the app in the spring, ahead of the official launch over the summer.

Taxi rides will cost the same as Uber X rides, Uber spokesperson Conor Ferguson told the New York Post.

When booking through Uber, yellow cab users will be able to see the fare before they accept the ride, a feature that is not available for regular Uber users.

The partnership between Uber and yellow cabs represents a significant moment in the industry, which has seen both sides clash over ride-hailing permits.

Uber’s stock rose 3.4 percent shortly after the deal was announced.
