A New York subway commuter died on Thursday after his pants got caught in the doors of a Q train as he was exiting. The train then dragged him along the platform until he fell onto the tracks, police said, reports the The New York Times.

The episode occurred shortly before midnight at the Avenue M station in Midwood, Brooklyn. The man, who police said appeared to be in his thirties and whose identity has not been released, was transported to Maimonides Medical Center, where he died.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the agency that runs the subway, reported that service was disrupted between the King's Highway and Prospect Park stations until approximately 3:30 am local.

The latest incident adds to a tragic list of recent subway-related deaths in New York City.

Earlier this year, Michelle Alyssa Go died after being pushed onto the tracks at Times Square station by a homeless man, the Daily Mail reported.

In April, a man fired 33 shots inside an N train passing through Sunset Park during the morning commute. The incident left ten passengers injured, The New York Times reported.

Transit crimes have increased 53.6% since last year, demonstrating the rising insecurity rates for New York subway commuters.
