Two individuals were arrested in the municipality of Tultitlán in the State of Mexico for allegedly killing dogs and using their meat to sell tacos at a street stand in Mexico City, local media reported Monday.

The neighbors reported the disappearance of their pets and the discovery of remains such as skins and skulls, as well as containers with acid, where it is speculated that the canine corpses were dissolved. The smell of the place "forced us to request the presence of the police and the owner of the property," they told Proceso.

After several complaints, the site was inspected by the police. The agents found more than 20 dogs, which were placed in the custody of the authorities.

Neighbors also went inside the taco store to document what was on the property.

In the yard of the house, they found a butcher's trunk and blood spilled on cardboard and on the floor, which they recorded on video while trying to cover their noses because of the intense stench.

The detainees were identified as Julio César 'N' and Jorge 'N'. They were transferred to the Cuautitlán Izcalli Prosecutor's Office, where they face charges of animal abuse and sanitary offenses, reported El Universal.

In addition, the Environmental Protection Agency of the State of Mexico (PROPAEM) is expected to find homes for the rescued dogs.

In recent days, residents of the area blocked a nearby avenue to request the support of state and municipal authorities because they suspected that the site was full of garbage.

According to locals, the two men had been going in and out of the location wearing boots and aprons for the past 10- years. According to Expansión, the two men claimed to sell pastor tacos near the Tacuba subway station in downtown Mexico City.
