On June 26, six members of the Civil Force of Nuevo Leon, Mexico, were killed and four more wounded in an attack by organized crime gunmen in a dozen pickup trucks.

The state Public Safety Secretariat indicated that the incident occurred at 3 a.m. on Sunday on the stretch of highway from Lampazos to Colombia, municipality of Anáhuac, reported Arístegui Noticias.

The agency said the police officers "heroically repelled the aggression" of the individuals who "were traveling in a convoy of ten vehicles" and therefore outnumbered and outgunned the law enforcement officers.

The police officers were patrolling the area when they were ambushed by individuals on board multiple vehicles, who opened fire on them.

When the requested reinforcements arrived, the alleged killers had already fled the scene.

The alleged assailants abandoned two pickup trucks at the site of the incident, as well as casings from large caliber weapons, including Barret 50, which can perforate armored vehicles.

The Fuerza Civil agents who lost their lives were identified as Evelyn Lizbeth Garza Kruegel, Fidel Alejandro Olvera Gutiérrez, Idelfonso Franisco del Ángel, Humberto Ascensicón Ramos Oaxaca, Carlos Andrés Hernández de la Cruz, and Alfonso Cruz González.
