Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced on Monday that he tested positive for COVID-19 for a second time. He claims his symptoms are mild and that he will quarantine until he recovers.

“I inform you that I am infected with #COVID19 and although the symptoms are mild, I will remain in isolation and will only perform office work and communicate virtually until I get through this.” Tweeted the president.

“Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López Hernández, will represent me at press conferences and other events. Cheer up, with the affection of always!” he continued.

“My voice is hoarse,” AMLO said during a video appearance on Tuesday. “A little bit of body aches at first, I’m taking paracetamol, and I feel pretty good.”

During a press conference on Monday, AMLO was visibly ill and did not wear a mask. After a reporter asked him about his symptoms, he responded that he was going to get a test later on but thought it was just the flu. At least two members of his cabinet also tested positive.

AMLO is one of the few world leaders who has caught the virus two times, along with the presidents of Pakistan and Poland. He is fully vaccinated and even received his booster. The first time the president contracted the virus was in January 2021.
