The mystery surrounding the discovery of the body of a three-month-old baby in a Puebla prison has continued to outrage the country since the news broke.

On Saturday, new details of the shocking case were revealed. The baby's body was found inside a dumpster of the San Miguel prison on January 11. The baby was identified as a deceased baby in Mexico City.

The baby’s name was Tadeo Ayala Peralta and he was born on October 4, 2021. His relatives say that he died when he was three months in a hospital in Mexico City after severe intestinal complications that forced him to undergo around six abdominal surgeries.

Tadeo finally passed away on Jan. 5 and his remains were laid to rest a day later in the Iztapalapa cemetery, just south of Mexico City.

There is no explanation of how Tadeo's body ended up inside the prison dumpster. The body was found with an incision in his abdomen and a hospital bracelet indicating his date of death and last name.

"We saw the baby's last name: Ayala Peralta. We thought it could be him. The father went to the cemetery and verified that the body was not there," said a relative.

While it is still a mystery how Tadeo’s body got to the prison, many theories have surfaced since the body was found. Theories range from the body being used as a part of a ritual to smuggling drugs into the prison.

The president and co-founder of the organization Reinserta A.C., Saskia Niño de Rivera, condemned the prison authorities of Puebla, including Governor Miguel Barbosa, "for this terrible murder and for their absolute inability to maintain control of a prison."

“An inmate of the same prison was the one who reported this fact when he found it in the garbage containers," she added.

The case remains a mystery: Why was a baby stolen from a cemetery and taken to a prison in Puebla? What was the purpose of moving the body? Who allowed the body to enter? How could someone enter the prison with the body of a child?
