Members of the Sinaloa Cartel forced three hitmen to walk naked through the streets after they allegedly betrayed the sons of cartel kingpin Joaquin ‘Chapo’ Guzman.

According to local Mexican media reports, the hitmen walked barefoot and without clothes while armed cartel members followed them in a truck across the city of Guasave in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. The accused hitmen carried signs that read, “This is what I get for being a Chapulín.”

A video of the reported punishment was shared across social media after it was allegedly leaked by the Sinaloa Cartel, La Opinion reported.

Presently, it is unclear whether the hitmen left the faction led by el Chapo’s sons to join another criminal group or if they switched sides within the Sinaloa Cartel. Currently, the “Chapitos” and Ismael ‘Mayo’ Zambada are in a power struggle for control of the cartel, a report from El Blog del Narco revealed.

Mexican media outlets have reported that the Sinaloa Cartel cell behind the punishment calls itself “La Maña” and has strong ties to el Chapo’s sons, including Ovidio, Ivan Archivaldo and Alfredo Guzman.

In the Mexican world of organized crime, traitors are often referred to as “chapulines,” or little worms.

Since 'Chapo' Guzman was arrested and extradited to the United States, his three eldest sons have taken his place -- but have run into resistance from people close to 'Mayo' Zambada, driving the cells with links to the ‘Chapitos’ to defend their bosses' territories in Mexico and the United States.
