Undisputed Mexican boxing champion Saúl 'Canelo' Álvarez is not just winning inside the ring. It turns out he is committed to winning the fight against Children’s cancer also and for that, the undisputed boxing champion of the world recently donated $1 million to Nariz Roja, a children’s cancer treatment center in Guadalajara, Mexico.

On Sunday, Nariz Roja thanked Álvarez on Twitter and acknowledged: “You have opened your heart to champions fighting cancer, you are the miracle of many children and women. You are a Champion of life!”, the organization added.

Fans immediately reacted to the post, taking notice of Canelo’s good heart.

“We need more people like El Canelo, our Canelo,” tweeted one fan. Good for the children with their cancer treatment,” another also tweeted.

Some saw it as an opportunity to criticize the left-leaning government of López Obrador.

“With a single donation, Canelo has done more for children and women with cancer than López Obrador in 3 years of government. Health is the most precious asset of any nation, and #LopezBurlaMundial has dedicated his mandate to sowing death and division,” Twitter user and physician Karl Teichmann added.

But this is not the first time the champion has made a generous donation to a social cause. He also joined the fight against Covid-19 and in 2020 donated 950 personal protection kits for first-line responders and health workers treating patients at the Civil Hospital of Guadalajara.

Last year, he also donated to the Red Nose Foundation to help children with cancer. Before his contribution, the foundation had only reached 169,780 pesos out of a goal of 450,000 pesos. To help the foundation reach its proposed goal,  he donated the difference.

Nariz Roja (Red Nose) was founded in the summer of 2009 by psychologist Alejandro Barbosa who realized, after several years of voluntary support to children with cancer that the need for aid was increasing, both in children and young people, “because when they turned 18 years old it was already more complicated to get some kind of material or financial support.”

In January, once againg, Canelo joined another donation campaign, this time in Arizona, to help young David Antolín undergo surgery in the United States and receive a lung transplant.

"I am going to do my bit to support David so that his miracle can be fulfilled. I am not a big fan of making videos when I support people, because when you do it from the heart there is no need to make this kind of video, but I want to take the opportunity to tell people that we can all do our bit," said Canelo, encouraging others to support the young boy.

Back in 2017, El Canelo began a plan to support those affected by the earthquakes that shook Mexico. He took to Jalisco to make a donation of two trucks full of food, each with a capacity of 5 tons.

Earlier this year, a young woman by the name of Sahiye Cruz Villegas who said she had kidney failure, and needed money for a transplant began a Twitter campaign to reach out to Alvarez to help her. The champion contacted the woman after seeing her post and once more gave a hand.

Back in 2019, he made news after posting a photo wearing some panda pajamas as part of his initiative to help raise funds for the John Lang Down Foundation. The Mexican boxer asked his followers to participate in order to win his pajamas to collect 100,000 Mexican pesos.
