A woman’s body was found wrapped in a trash bag off of Florida’s coast over the weekend, authorities reported.

The body was discovered by fishermen at around 12:40 p.m. on Saturday around 13 nautical miles off the coast of Egmont Key by Tampa Bay, the U.S. Coast Guard reported. The Coast Guard and St. Petersburg police both responded to the site to recover the body.

According to the witnesses, they were spearfishing and went for a dive in the water when they found the trash bag. Initially, they tried to pick it up but then realized that it was full.

When they cut open the plastic to see what was inside, they saw skin and what appeared to be a bikini strap. They immediately called the police to report what they found.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into the incident to find out what happened since the body was found in federal waters.

The woman has not yet been identified. However, a local newspaper reported that the woman is most likely middle-aged.

This is a developing story.
