A transgender teenager was seriously injured after being stabbed on Saturday night at Miami International Airport. The incident occurred around 11:30 pm in the international arrivals hall of Terminal J, causing panic and commotion.

Local reports said the 17-year old transgender teen was stabbed 18 times while he was sitting on the floor enjoying a mean when he was suddenly attacked with an assailant with a butcher knife, according to police reports.

The accused stabber, identified as 29-year-old Alexander Love, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and attempted premeditated murder, according to a Miami-Dade Police report.

“The victim was stabbed about 18 times in the arms, shoulders, neck, face, head and legs,” according to a report from 6 South Florida, a local Miami NBC affiliate.

“Love then allegedly tried to push the teen over a fourth-floor safety retaining glass, but the victim was able to free herself and run down a staircase to the third floor, where she received medical assistance,” the NBC affiliate reported.

The victim was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center where they underwent emergency surgery, but their current condition is unknown.

Love was subsequently arrested by airport based Customs and Border Patrol officers after the attack.

During an interview with federal officers, he said he started talking to the alleged victim at the airport. He also told the agents he believed he was involuntarily intoxicated and that someone inserted an unknown object or drug in his rectum.

Aunque las autoridades no han proporcionado detalles sobre la identidad del detenido o su posible relación con la víctima.

The violence unleashed in one of Miami's busiest terminals had an immediate impact on airport operations. Activities were temporarily suspended while police and emergency crews responded to the incident.

Local authorities and airport management are working together to review security measures and ensure that all necessary precautions are taken to prevent incidents of this nature from occurring again.
