One dead, two injured after Alabama church shooting

The shooting occurred at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Vestavia, which has a population of less than 40,000.

One person is dead and two people are being treated for injuries following a shooting in Vestavia, Alabama, at a church on Thursday, police said. 

The suspect is in custody and no additional threats are present, Vestavia Hills Police Department posted on Facebook.

The shooting occurred at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Vestavia, which has a population of less than 40,000. 

Police responded to calls of an active shooter at the church around 6:20 pm central time, officials said. 

Law enforcement plans to provide update around 9 pm. 

The church has not released a statement on social media as of press time.
