An 18-year-old mother from Miami was arrested on Tuesday after she attempted to hire a hitman to kill her three-year-old son, according to police reports.
According to the Miami-Dade police affidavit, Jazmin Paez filled out a form on a fake hitman website designed to “prevent legitimate solicitations to commit murders.”
Using a fake name, Paez submitted an application on the hit-for-hire website naming her intended victim as her three-year-old son. In her request, she asked that her son be taken far away and “possibly be killed” as soon as possible, saying that her deadline for the job’s completion was Thursday.
The person running the website reached out to the police after receiving Paez’s request.
After conducting an investigation, police were able to find Paez using an IP address and phone number used in her request. The information led them to the residence of the three-year-old’s grandmother, where the child was living.
The grandmother confirmed the identity of the victim by comparing a picture of the three-year-old to the one that Paez had submitted online.
Police investigators posed as the hired hitman to talk to Paez through text messages, in which she confessed to solicit the killing for $3,000.
Police arrested Paez on Tuesday night and was brought into questioning at the Miami-Dade Police Department.
Paez confessed to reaching out to a hitman. She claimed that she was in a romantic relationship with a man that did not approve of her being a mother.
Despite breaking up with the individual, Paez believed she could rekindle their relationship if her son was out of the picture, she told the police according to the affidavit.
The 18-year-old is being charged with first-degree solicitation of murder and third-degree using a communications device for unlawful use.
