hostage situation at a Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meeting in Florida on Monday left three people dead, including the suspect, authorities reported.

According to the Edgewater Police Department, officers responded to a report of an armed subject at an NA meeting at 515 North Ridgewood Avenue in Edgewater at about 7:00 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they learned that a male victim had been shot and a female had been taken hostage by the subject. The 20 other individuals attending the meeting were able to escape.

Despite multiple efforts by police to negotiate with the suspect, they were all unsuccessful. "There was no response from inside the building," police said.

"We made the quick decision to utilize our SWAT team, and we breached the doors and located three deceased people," Edgewater Police Chief Joe Mahoney told FOX35 Orlando.

The suspect was among the three individuals that were found dead.

The police later identified the suspect as Quinton Hunter. The male victim was identified as Ian Greenfield and the female victim was identified as Hunter’s ex-girlfriend, Erica Hoffman.

"At this time we believe Quinton Hunter was angry over a relationship Greenfield had with Hunter's former girlfriend, Erica Hoffman, the second victim in this case," police said in a statement shared with NBC News.

Upon entering the building, Hunter shot Greenfield at close proximity, “mortally wounding him,” according to police.

Hunter appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

No additional details have been shared about the incident. It remains under investigation.
