A 7-year-old girl died this Friday after being hit by a 92-year-old driver outside a pharmacy in Miami.
Stephanie Alonso and her mother were walking last Monday around 4:00 p.m. when leaving the Navarro Pharmacy located at Southwest 32nd Avenue and Coral Way, when an SUV driven by an elderly woman hit the minor and grazed the mother.
“She hit my daughter and crashed into the wall,” Stephanie's father, Joany Figueredo, said in an interview with WTVJ. “She (the elderly woman) got out of the car and acted like nothing had happened.”
The minor was taken to the hospital in critical condition with head injuries. Finally, he died this Friday, his father confirmed.
“Stephanie, at 7 years old, had her life planned.
“She knew when she was going to get married, what she wanted to hear, how many children she wanted to have, she said she didn't want to have boys because she was always fighting with her brothers,” Figueredo said.
“She is the daughter everyone would want and they took her away from me,” he told reporters.
The victim was going to turn 8 years old on Sept. 21. Her family's GoFundMe account described her as a “smart, happy and loving” girl.
The family will donate his organs.
The driver reportedly told police her brakes weren't working, but investigators said surveillance video appears to show she hit the accelerator instead of the brake.
Figueredo believes that his daughter’s death could have been prevented and is in favor of a law that prohibits older people from driving.
