This weekend the shooting at an exclusive Miami Beach club made headlines. The victim was Lowell Grissom, 37, a rapper originally from the state of California, known by the stage name EveryBodyKnowsLo.
Grissom was an artist and entrepreneur with over 16 years of experience in the entertainment industry with a strong background in songwriting and music production. According to his social networks, he had professional relations with the music company A & R and during the last years he produced and coordinated artists such as Drake, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne and Ray J.
Police did not recognize the corpse at first, but hours later, the media identified the man killed was the famous rapper. Two women were also injured after the shooting.
The Miami Beach Police Department received an emergency call just before 4 a.m. alerting them to shots inside a nightclub located at 235 and 23rd Street in Miami Beach, according to local news reports.
Upon arrival, officers found three victims with gunshot wounds, a man and two women. The victims were all transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Trauma Unit, where the man later died of his injuries.
The two female victims are expected to recover.
The media reports that the Gala Miami club where it all happened was hosting a party as part of Formula 1 race week. Its website promotes the establishment as “Miami's new premium lounge offering a high-end private experience to a highly exclusive clientele.”
Police have not released any additional information about the events leading up to the shooting, but urge anyone with information to contact the Miami-Dade crime hotline.
The incident occurs in an area of Miami that in recent times has seen altercations involving firearms that have resulted in several deaths.
Miami Beach authorities imposed an overnight curfew during the spring break period last March after two fatal shootings and loud, chaotic crowds that police had had difficulty controlling.
