A Florida councilman was found carrying 10 grams of cocaine hidden in his shoe after he was caught speeding away from a traffic stop on Saturday night, according to authorities.
Police spotted Palm Bay City Councilman Pete Filiberto, who was elected to city council last November, speeding on his motorcycle at around 11:50 p.m., according to the police.
The councilman ran past several stop signs and sped way over the speed limit through residential neighborhoods, according to FOX 5. When the police finally managed to stop him, he attempted to flee when the officer turned his back to him. However, he lost control of the motorcycle while trying to make a U-turn and eventually fell over.
Filiberto allegedly smelled like alcohol, according to the police. The councilman, who has two prior DUIs, declined to speak to the police or take a breath test at the site. He was taken into custody instead.
At the police station, Filiberto was asked to take his shoes off, leading the police to find 10.6 grams of cocaine hidden inside one of his socks, according to his arrest record.
Filiberto was charged with cocaine possession, reckless driving, and DUI, among other charges, according to The New York Post.
Filiberto paid the bond to get out of jail. He is set to return to court on a later date.
