Five people were killed in a head-on crash in an expressway after a car was going the wrong way in a Florida expressway on Saturday, authorities reported.

The driver, identified as Maiky Simeon, was speeding going the wrong way on the Palmetto Expressway at around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday when he smashed into an incoming Honda Sedan.

"There were no pre-collision skid marks" or any "evidence on the roadway indicating that the defendant took any evasive actions to avoid the crash," according to the affidavit.

Images released by the Florida State Highway Patrol show the sedan barely recognizable from the amount of damage it sustained at the time of impact.

The 30-year-old driver survived the crash but had to be hospitalized. An investigation after the crash showed that Simeon had his license revoked in 2014 for going 109 mph. While he had many other driving-related offenses on his record, his license was valid at the time of the crash.

The victims all died at the site from critical injuries. They were identified as Valeria Caceres, Valeria Pena, Daniella Marcano, Briana Pacalagua, and Giancarlo Arias, aged 12 to 25.

“Today 5 lives are no longer part of this earthly plane, 5 lives full of dreams, goals, and purposes today will no longer be part of us,” reads a social media post dedicated to all five victims.”

“It hurts a lot to know that such young and talented people will not be able to achieve what they had one day dreamed but it hurts me more to know that family, friends, and all their loved ones will have to go through immense pain.”

Family members of the victims set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the victim’s funerals. So far they have raised more than $30,000.
